The BAIC Off-Road BJ40 EREV is a compact-class crossover with a range-extender powertrain, built since 2025. Over the past 12 months 43,862 cars were sold in China.
The range holds 14 versions, all of them all-wheel drive with two electric motors. Output sits in a narrow band, from 391 kW (531 hp) to 403 kW (548 hp), so the motor is not what a buyer picks between. Every version uses a single-speed reduction gear, and the powertrain includes a combustion engine of 1,498 cc, about 1.5 litres, to the China 6 emission standard.
Battery capacity is between 40.3 and 49.4 kWh, and the claimed driving range between 150 and 252 km. No fully electric version is offered: the line-up runs on a single energy type. On output, every version sits above the 58.84 kW mark.
The bodies, by contrast, differ noticeably: length from 4,720 to 4,861 mm, width from 1,940 to 2,065 mm, height from 1,964 to 2,110 mm — all on a wheelbase of 2,760 mm shared by every version. Seating is for 5. Factory prices run from 179,800 to 299,800 yuan.
