The Volkswagen T-Roc (Chinese name 探歌, Tange) is a compact crossover from the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, the first SUV of this JV, produced since 2018 on the MQB A1 platform (Foshan plant). The Chinese version is lengthened relative to the European one: length 4318 mm and wheelbase 2680 mm (versus ~4234/2603 mm for the global T-Roc), which gives more room for rear passengers. In the target 2021-2022 years, China was offered a single engine - a gasoline turbo 1.4T EA211 (designation 280TSI) rated at 150 hp (110 kW) and 250 Nm paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch: front-wheel-drive versions with a dry clutch (DQ200), the all-wheel-drive 4Motion "Luxe" with a wet one (DQ381). The model is aimed at the urban buyer who values European handling and VW build quality. Since even the top trim produces 150 hp (≤160 hp), all versions pass the Russian reduced recycling-fee rate when imported by a private individual "for personal use."
