The Tank 500 New Energy is a large SUV produced by Great Wall for the Chinese market since 2023. It is a plug-in hybrid line through and through: every version in it carries a traction battery.
One combustion engine covers the whole range: 1,998 cc, 2.0 litres, rated at 185 kW, about 252 hp, with no variation between versions. Drive goes to all four wheels through an automatic gearbox, offered with 9 speeds on part of the line-up. Emissions are certified to the China 6 standard.
Battery capacity is where the differences sit, from 37.1 to 59.1 kWh. The quoted electric range is the same for every version at 120 km.
The body is shared across the line: 5,078 mm long, 1,934 mm wide and 1,905 mm tall, on a 2,850 mm wheelbase, with seating for five.
The price list runs to 11 versions, at factory prices from 335,000 to 385,000 yuan. The corridor between the cheapest and the dearest step is narrow, and what separates them is equipment and battery rather than engine. All versions are rated above the 117.68 kW mark, and none below. Chinese sales over the past 12 months came to 36,735 cars.
