Peugeot 408

The Peugeot 408 is a compact-class saloon built in China by Dongfeng Peugeot. The series has been in production since 2010 and has yet to leave the price lists.

Every version runs an internal combustion engine. Two displacements are listed, 1,199 and 1,598 cc, roughly 1.2 and 1.6 litres, and output ranges from 100 to 127 kW, or 136 to 173 hp. Emissions are certified to the China 6 standard.

There are two transmissions as well: a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Drive goes to the front wheels only, with no all-wheel-drive option in the series.

The body is the same throughout: 4,750 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,488 mm tall, on a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, seating 5. That is a long car for the compact class, with a generous wheelbase underneath it.

Factory prices open at 105,700 yuan and reach 159,700, spread over 11 versions, and sales in China over the past 12 months came to 7,589 cars. Against the 117.68 kW line, the equivalent of 160 hp, the range splits unevenly: 2 versions stay below it and 9 sit above.
