The K5 is a mid-size sedan that Kia sells on the Chinese domestic market. The range covers two combustion engines and two transmissions, and moving from the entry version to the top one changes both at once.
The smaller engine measures 1,497 cc, or 1.5 litres; the larger one 1,975 cc, rounded to 2.0 litres. The factory codes are G4FS and G4NN. Output runs from 125 kW, that is 170 hp, up to 177 kW, or 240 hp, and emissions are certified to the China 6 standard.
Two transmissions are used: an 8-speed automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission of the dry type.
All 14 versions in the price list sit above the 117.68 kW line, the equivalent of 160 hp, and not one of them falls below it.
The body is large even by the standards of the class: 4,980 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,445 mm tall, on a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Seating is for five.
Factory prices run from 139,800 to 206,800 yuan, a spread that follows naturally from a range in which both engine and transmission change. The K5 has been built since 2011 and remains in production. Sales in China over the past 12 months came to 1,110 cars.
