BYD Tang New Energy唐新能源

Tang New Energy is a large BYD crossover in the mid-size class, built for the Chinese market since 2015 and sold both as a plug-in hybrid and as a battery-electric car. Chinese sales over 12 months came to 37,401 vehicles.

The family is anything but uniform. Output ranges from 102 to 380 kW, or 138 to 516 hp, while the combustion engines displace between 1,497 and 1,999 cc, roughly 1.5 to 2.0 litres. The declared emission standard is China 6.

Three transmission types are used: a CVT, a single-speed reduction gear and a wet six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Drive can be front-wheel, all-wheel, or all-wheel with two electric motors. Battery capacity covers a very wide span, from 10 to 108.8 kWh, and the quoted range runs from 52 to 730 km.

Body size differs markedly between versions: length from 4,870 to 5,045 mm, width from 1,950 to 1,980 mm, height from 1,725 to 1,760 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,820 to 2,950 mm. Cabins are offered with 5, 6 or 7 seats, and factory prices in China run from 179,800 to 342,800 yuan.

Of the 55 versions in the family, 37 stay below the power threshold and 18 rise above it. The gap between the extremes is large enough that the name alone describes a car only loosely.
