BYD Seal 05 DM-i海豹05 DM-i

The Seal 05 DM-i is a compact BYD saloon with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, sold on the domestic Chinese market. Over the past 12 months the series accounted for 109,916 sales.

Mechanically the 6 versions are much alike: a combustion engine of 1,498 cc, about 1.5 litres, a CVT, and the same rated 74 kW — near 101 hp — right across the range, certified to the China 6 emissions standard. Output is therefore not what tells one version from another.

The differences begin with the battery, whose capacity moves from 7.7 to 25.3 kWh, and with quoted range, given as 55 to 210 km. Body size is fixed for the whole series: 4,780 mm long, 1,837 mm wide and 1,515 mm tall, wheelbase 2,718 mm, 5 seats.

Factory prices span 79,800 to 103,800 yuan. The model has been built since 2025 and stays in production. Choosing within the series therefore comes down to battery, range and price rather than to engine or transmission. Output keeps the entire line-up below the 117.68 kW mark, which is the same as 160 hp — 6 versions out of 6, with none above it.
