The GL8 New Energy is a large Buick minivan with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, put together for the Chinese market by SAIC-GM Buick. Cabins come with six or seven seats, and the range runs to thirteen versions.
On sale since 2024. The combustion half of the hybrid is the same throughout the line, a 1,498 cc (1.5-litre) unit, but output is not: it runs from 115 kW (156 hp) to 132 kW (179 hp). The emission standard is China 6.
This is a range the 117.68 kW (160 hp) mark cuts in two: two versions stay below the figure and the remaining 11 sit above it. The power gap between the two sides is small, yet the line itself straddles the mark.
Battery capacity moves from 24.4 to 34.8 kWh depending on the version, and electric-only range is quoted between 138 and 202 km.
The body is identical across the range: 5,219 mm long, 1,878 mm wide and 1,807 mm tall, on a 3,088 mm wheelbase. Factory prices are spread wide, from 229,900 to 419,900 yuan. Sales over 12 months on the Chinese market came to 44,366 cars.
