The BMW 5 Series New Energy (535Le) is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the E-segment executive sedan, built by the 华晨宝马 (BMW Brilliance) joint venture in Shenyang in long-wheelbase form for the Chinese market. The model is based on the G38 (LWB) platform with a 3108 mm wheelbase, which increases rear-passenger space relative to the standard European sedan. The powertrain combines a 2.0-litre turbo engine and an electric motor for a combined output of 185 kW (252 hp) with rear-wheel drive; the transmission is an 8-speed Steptronic automatic. Our stock includes the 535Le and 535Le M Sport from 2021-2022 (facelift/LCI); the M Sport version features the M exterior package and a sportier chassis tune. Because the system output (252 hp) exceeds the 160 hp threshold, the reduced recycling-fee rate for an individual does not apply to this car — import is calculated at the commercial rate.
