The BMW 3 Series of Chinese assembly by 华晨宝马 is a premium mid-size executive sedan with an emphasis on handling and status. For the Chinese market the model is produced in two wheelbase variants: the long-wheelbase 320Li (wheelbase 2961 mm, factory index G28, not sold in Europe) with an emphasis on rear-seat space, and the standard 320i (wheelbase 2851 mm, G20) with a more spirited weight distribution. Both of our trims carry the same 2.0-liter B48 turbo engine in the Chinese detuned form of 156 hp (115 kW, 250 Nm), an 8-speed Steptronic automatic and classic rear-wheel drive; the 184 hp version in China is sold under the 325i/325Li index and does not concern our stock. The B48 engine and ZF automatic are mass-produced, well-understood units, and service is available, but rear-wheel drive requires quality winter tires. For the Russian recycling-fee relief both versions qualify: 156 hp does not exceed the 160 hp threshold, which reduces the recycling fee for a private individual importing "for personal use."
