The Compass listed here is a compact crossover from the American brand Jeep, sold in China as an import rather than as a locally assembled car. The series is closed: cars under this name were built from 2007 to 2015.

A compact crossover is a size aimed first of all at town use: the driving position is higher than in a passenger car, while the footprint stays small enough not to be a nuisance in traffic or when parking. Cars of this size are often bought as the only car in the household.

The body follows estate logic: cabin and luggage area form one space, the tailgate lifts as a whole, and the rear seat folds down when something bulky has to be carried. What sets it apart from a saloon is exactly this lack of a separate, closed-off boot.

The import label in the Chinese catalogue means the car was not assembled in China but shipped in complete; such series always stand apart from locally built models in the price lists. Imported series lead their own life in a catalogue: the choice of versions is set not by a local plant but by the market the car came from. No new cars are offered under this name any more.
